Here are some beautiful quilts from Houston.
Bear with me, it may take a while. The pictures are large to give you a clear view of the artist's work. In some you can even see the quilting lines. Here we go!
P.S. I will change the pictures frequently so check back the next time you visit quiltfabric.com.
Star Shower
By: Betty Haddan
Inspired by artist Iran Lawrence, dimensional looking ribbons seem to radiate out from the star focal point to form a shower of stars.
Our Children of Freedom
Sharon Schamber
In explaining her technique, Sharon says, "I hand-dyed the fabric for the bricks and then machine quilted the piece. It is my own curved piecing technique."
Ecuadoriam Girls
Hollis Chatelain
This piece was inspired while she was photographing the village in Ecuador where her daughter taught. She says, "I was struck by how old the girls looked and the responsibility that is put on them at such a young age. I created this piece in their honor."
iCandy2002!
By: Robbi Joy Eklow
This quilt was designed using a computer. I love the color scheme and designs because they are so psychadelic!
Journey
By: Barbara Woodruff
This breathtaking design of a sailboat is absolutely astonishing! This quilt represents voyages in one's life. As Barbara says "...may I always take these challenges with loving anticipation and look forward to the total uncertainty of what lies ahead."
All Wright
By: Maggie Kolvenbach
As Maggie says "This quilt is based on a 1927 Frank Lloyd Wright Liberty Magazine cover. The patchwork designs are from Frank's art glass windows, fabric, rugs and textured concrete blocks."
Designer Dandelions
By: Marilyn Gillis
I like the focal image of the quilt. It's really cool how the dandelions form a circle and draw the viewer's eye to the center.
Botanical Awakening
By: Pat Cheshire Jennings
This quilt was inspired by a trip to the Netherlands. That is quite apparent when looking at the lovely flowers. I really like the detail. Nothing is left out from petal to root!
Bohemian Rhapsody
By: Ricky Tims
This quilt is so gorgeous! I like the Oriental style and the color selection. The whole quilt was made from original hand-dyed fabrics and was quilted with silk and rayon threads.
Bubbleluscious
By: Judy B. Dales
As Judy says: "Large shapes were embellished with overlays of tulle and chiffon. Floating transparent spheres inspired the title."
Luna
By: Diane Rusin Doran
This quilt is magnificent because it is so surreal! The colors compliment each other, especially the different hues.
Sun/Flower
By: Lisa S. Binkley
Madison, Wisconsin
As Lisa says "It is intended to be a whimsical and sincere celebration of beauty and the life force all around us. The dragons peeking out from behind the petals are sending the sun/flower's energy out to the rest of the universe."

New Dawn by Caryl Bryer Fallert
I think this lady is brilliant. She has won many prizes and ribbons. The two quilts of hers here were new for Houston. Get ready for this phote below of more detail...........it will knock your socks off.

Midnight Fantasy By Caryl Bryer Fallert.
This 48 inch square quilt won a blue ribbon in Houston. Ms. Fallert has won many awards. This quilt and several others are for sale at her website which is www.bryerpatch.com. Her work is awesome.
Party of Three by Susan Cleveland
Precision piecing and threadwork are featured. Designed using Corel Draw, this quilt used hand dyed fabric of her own and those from Primrose Gradations. A variety of threads are used. Threads are stitched through the needle and in the bobbin, stitched prior to quilting, and as quilting, stitched with feed dogs up and as free motion. Hand quilted stars are sprinkled throughout. Piping within the piecing and in the binding adds detail and spark.
Sunset at Sea by Mary Jane Cook - Her husband wanted a brightly colored Storm at Sea quilt for his office. This is her adaptation using all hand dyed fabrics by Janet Jo Smith, Ricky Tims and David Hill.
A Matter of Perspective by Rachel A. Wetzler - In a quilt, bold colors and strong shapes command our attention. The background often contains more subtle elements. Though easily overlooked, they are essential in creating design coherence and interest. A shape is defined by its background. Life, too, is defined and lived out against the kind of background we see. Although people, events and things often dominate my focus, it is God who holds my life together and gives it meaning.
Candles in the Wind by Sally Collins
This is a very small quilt for all the pieces in it. It is about 18 inches square!
Twinkle Little Star by Arleta Johnson
She was asked by her quilt guild to draft and piece a twelve inch block of karen Stone's unusual Lone Star 2 quilt to be used in their Hill Country Quilt guild's millenium quilt. The star block was so cute and such a hit that I decided to do a miniature.
Cosmic Awakening By Myrna Rosen & Hy Rosen
This collaboration features 4" squares, 8 solids and 8 patterns, swapping inner circles. The border, originally the trim from the 4" squares, was salvaged from the trash where it called out to be recycled. One might say we got our best idea from the garbage. The name comes from the rich, sunny colors that feel us with feelings of optimism.
On the Fourth Day by Sandra Greve Thompson and Carol Thelen
"I designed this quilt when our Mayfest 2000 show was to be named To the Stars and Beyond. I wanted to start from the beginning of time."
That's the end of the quilt show for now (3/17/01). It will change soon. Now that you have been inspired, may I suggest a little shopping........
